Pauline Viardot: Cendrillon

Pauline Viardot: Cendrillon

To talk of Pauline Viardot-García briefly is a chimera for several reasons; Mainly because of the great importance it had in the musical and artistic scene of nineteenth-century Europe. His contributions range from the introduction of Russian music in the Western Europe to suggest the rescue of works such as Gluck's Orfeo, which was reconstructed and reorchestrated by his friend Hector Berlioz.

However, the genius of this woman is not only in his work as muse and motor of various artistic creations by third parties; We can also find exquisite examples in her own production, like her songs for voice and piano, where Italian belcantist lyricism of the time merges with French aesthetics and the exotic Spanish influence of her ancestors.

During this edition of the Festival de Música Española de Cádiz one of the great works of this prodigious woman can be heard again: The chamber opera Cendrillon, scored for para 7 singers with piano accompaniment and based on the story of Cinderella by Charles Perrault.

Alain Damas is in this time Le Comte Barigoule, on of the prince's chamberlain (similar to Dandini in the Rossinian version) and who passes by the prince in order to discover the virtue of the daughters of the Baron de Pictordu. An exciting and complex role that brings out his vocal qualities as well as acting skills.

La performance will take place on november the 18th, 20:30 at Gran Teatro Falla.
